Darwin Liquefied Natural Gas Plant

Overview

Construction of the Darwin Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant began in June 2003 and the plant was commissioned in the first quarter 2006 when LNG sales commenced.

Project Purpose

A 502 kilometre subsea pipeline connects the Bayu-Undan offshore facility to the Darwin LNG plant in Darwin.

Project Goals

WorleyParsons have been contracted by ConocoPhillips, through an Engineering Services Contract, to provide the maintenance engineering and support required for the ongoing maintenance at the Darwin LNG plant.

Project Scope

The 3.24 million tonne per annum Darwin LNG plant is connected via a 500km pipeline to the Bayu-Undan gas field in the Timor Sea. WorleyParsons is providing the maintenance engineering and support required for the ongoing maintenance at the Darwin LNG plan

  • Coordinate all detailed planning activities for the construction work
  • Lead planning activities with input from internal and external stakeholders
  • Work inline with master schedule
  • Interfacing and coordinating with other contractors
  • Detailed planning of key activities
  • Forecasting of key constraint activities to ensure achievability
  • Assisting Area Engineers with Reporting and Planning
  • Maintain data related to planning initiatives
  • Ensure that Master Schedule and detailed planning are in sync
  • Prioritise maintenance work packages
  • Portfolio Project Management
  • Formulation of Integrated Plan in line with Strategic Implementation Plan
  • Aligning the SAP data in line with Integrated Plan
  • Coordination with the Engineering Service Contractor
  • Revision of programme logic time to time to suggest the best possible sequence to arrest delays
  • Advise Engineering Team Leader in regard of Project Control related activities
  • Daily, Weekly and Monthly Reports to Engineering Team
  • Monitor and measure progress, reporting progress against planned for earned value analysis
  • Analyse and monitor progress reports issued by various contractors
  • Develop Forecast to Complete (FTC) analysis reports

Challenges

Manage the execution of all identified maintenance work through a management of change process (MOC); including leading and coordinating the detailed planning of all construction work to ensure work execution is set up to guarantee maximum success. Work with stakeholders across the project (development & construction) to develop construction plans which will be integrated into the Project Master Schedule.

  • Portfolio project management and the ability to manage maintenance through prioritisation
  • Extensive prior knowledge of the oil and gas sector and delivery at EPCM, PMC and Contractor levels
  • Understand the reporting requirements, without the need to “reinvent the wheel”
